The Challenge: Creating new staff welfare and prefabricated office building
Travelcare’s aim is to provide high quality transport services in a cost effective way, placing employees’ and passengers’ health and safety at the forefront of all activities.
With existing facilities at the Travelcare depot in the village of Rufford requiring urgent replacement to bring them up to date with current usage and in line with DDA compliance, modular building methods provided a fast and cost effective solution.
The facility constructed by Enviro Building Solutions uses the best of modular techniques and progressive use of resources to provide Travelcare with a high quality staff welfare provision incorporating a meeting room, prefabricated offices, washrooms and secure storage accommodation.
“Modular building solutions provide the perfect match for commercial applications where new office and welfare facilities are required within a short time window, offering best value for money and creating a high-quality option designed to stand the test of time.”
A modular welfare building at a communications crossroads
Awarded through Lancashire County Council’s Construction Work Framework, the project is located on a site near Rufford in West Lancashire. This is where the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the Liverpool, Orsmkirk and Preston Railway, the A59 trunk road and the river Douglas all meet.
The first task completed by Enviro Building Solutions was to demolish the existing outbuildings and prepare the site for the new modular build.
Ensuring a smooth and professional process
Although access did not present any specific issues, with the new building located on an existing council depot and all access routes unimpeded, the prefabricated modular building sections had to be transported on low loaders though the local village, which can cause minor delays to traffic.
To avoid any problems for residents, Enviro Building Solutions leafleted the area to advise on timings and to ensure information was available to residents with any questions.
Achieving DDA compliance
One of the key requirements for this replacement building was to ensure complete compliance with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) requirements.
The original building was accessed via a short flight of steps. Enviro Building Solutions modified the foundations to facilitate level access throughout, ensuring ease of access and use for everyone.
A modern, sustainable and secure modular building
The building which now serves Travelcare in Rufford is modern, light and economical to run. Enviro Building Solutions also installed fire detection and intruder alarm systems to optimise security, and the choice of a Heritage Green Plastisol exterior finish allows the facility to match well to its green field environment.
